Welcome to BITUG. THE User
Group for HP NonStop Systems.
Updated on 7th July 2010
It’s a NonStop Active, Active, Active summer!
Seems only minutes since my last few words on “spring is in the air and your committee is busy”. Yet, here we are already in the height of summer 2010. Wimbledon has come and gone, England’s football team, once again, did not win the World cup and personally, with the NonStop sunshine of recent weeks, my thoughts are now turning towards the kids school summer term and summer holidays.
However, there is lot’s to do before the hols and your committee has been very Active Active Active on your behalf.
ACTIVE - We have two SIG’s coming up, the first is the DR/Business Continuity SIG on the 21st July and the new Solutions SIG on the 13th of October 2010.
For the rapidly approaching DR SIG, once again our thanks go to Iain Liston-Brown, our HP Liaison member. He has secured two HP slots at this popular SIG. The first speaker will be presenting and advising on Business Continuity best practices. Not just in NonStop environments but taking a step back and presenting the bigger generic business continuity picture. The second HP slot will be via an on-line presentation to the USA by the NED DR team, yes team! We will have the opportunity to hear about HP DR solutions, product updates and raise questions on all aspects of DR with HP. During the day, we will also hear about end user experiences, and have presentations from leading third party providers of DR and business continuity systems.
Registration is now open and you can register in the normal way via this BITUG Web site at www.bitug.com/viewpage.php?page_id=4. 21st of July 2010! Business Continuity! surely a must for the NonStop diary!
ACTIVE - BITUG Committee members are busy co-organising a golf event and invites golfing “NonStoppers” from across the British Isles for a golf day at Wokefield Park on the 3rd of September 2010. Overnight accommodation is available, tee times are booked, format chosen and there are many prizes to be won! Further details to follow but if you are interested and want to book a place early, please contact Committee member Stuart Taylor
ACTIVE - One of major events and headline news for NonStoppers this year has to be, the announcement from Connect, that for the first time in three years, there is once again an International “NonStop only” event in North America, “The Connect NonStop Symposium and Expo”.
Organised by Connect with its partners and HP, this is billed as the “one-stop-shop event for all things NonStop!” The conference is to be held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California, USA from 26th to 29th September. (NonStop only event in San Jose California! sounds very familiar?). The website for this conference is www.connect-community.org/?page=ConnectNonStopEvent. Connect / BITUG membership and Connect “early bird” discounts are available.
ACTIVE – We are already looking for articles for our winter Newsletter. If you have any NonStop experiences, good or bad, that you would like to share or anything you think would be of interest to the BITUG membership, please send your article to me at chairman@bitug.com for review by the committee.
ACTIVE – Arrangements, dare I say it, are ahead of schedule on the planning for our annual “NonStop only” BIG SIG in December! This two-day event, will once again consist of an education day on the 1st December, at HP offices in Wood Street, London and day two, on the 2nd of December at Trinity House in London, over looking the Tower of London and the Bloody Tower, sorry just had to say that! "I can't believe it is not in your diaries already!"
Finally but most definitely not least, we are still ACTIVELY looking for new members to join us on the BITUG committee. If you are interested or would simply like to know a little more about what’s involved, please email me at chairman@bitug.com.
To finish on a phrase from our colleagues over the pond, happy holidays!
